Mr. Speaker, let us take a moment to reflect on what happened yesterday. You had to censure the Leader of the Opposition for refusing to withdraw the unparliamentary language he used while making political attacks about a crisis, a human tragedy, that is happening in British Columbia. The fact is that we will always take this tragedy seriously. That is why we are taking a compassionate and evidence-based approach. We will be there to support British Columbia as it adjusts its pilot project.

Mr. Speaker, today we honour the memory of 14 young women who were murdered at École polytechnique de Montréal simply because they were women. We honour their memory by continuing to fight against inequality and gender-based violence. We all need to continue to pursue reforms against assault weapons, the implementation of red flag and yellow flag laws and the fight against femicide. We must make sure that a tragedy like the one at Polytechnique never happens again.

Mr. Speaker, we need to be careful about associating a tragedy that happened in Prince George with the actions or inactions of any particular government. We understand how horrific this is for the family and for the community. We will continue to work to make sure that kids across this country are protected. That is why we are serious about moving forward in protecting them from online harms. This is an extremely serious issue that we will always handle with the respect and responsibility it deserves. This issue should not serve as an excuse to lob veiled accusations. It is a tragedy that we all need to work on together.

Mr. Speaker, I will respond to my hon. colleague in a moment. First, though, I want to express my deep sorrow at the deaths of five Canadians, including three children, in Sault Ste. Marie this morning. It is a senseless tragedy that occurred after intimate partner violence escalated into a shooting rampage at two homes. I want to extend my deepest condolences to the grieving families, friends and loved ones of the victims, and for them to know that they are not alone.

Mr. Speaker, as my hon. colleague said, our hearts go out to the families affected by this senseless tragedy. Nothing can erase the grief and the pain that these families and this community are experiencing. We will be there for them in the coming days, months and years as they endure unimaginable grief. I also want to thank the first responders and all those who intervened to help and make the situation safe. We will continue to keep them in our thoughts and prayers.

Mr. Speaker, Canadians expect their government to respond quickly and effectively to crises, and answer their questions, but it is interesting to see how Conservative politicians are changing their tune. I will remind the member that her colleagues from Leeds—Grenville—Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes and West Nova asked on at least three occasions, between May 20 and May 28, 2020, when all of this information would finally be made transparent and public. I am focused on supporting the families affected by this tragedy and taking action to ensure that it never happens again.
