Mr. Speaker, the opposition leader would have a bit more credibility if he did not oppose our school food program, which will help 400,000 children across the country eat better.
We are here to invest in and assist families, while the Conservatives have nothing but cuts and austerity to offer. The same applies to our investments in dental care, which have allowed nearly 100,000 seniors to access dental care free of charge. This too is being opposed by the Conservatives. We are here to help Canadians when it comes to affordability.

Mr. Speaker, the Leader of the Opposition is playing politics at the expense of Canadians' rights and freedoms. He clearly will not protect women's freedom of choice on abortion.
He bragged about being able to use the notwithstanding clause to violate Canadians' rights. A woman's right to choose should not be up for debate in the House in 2024, and yet, that is what is happening because of him.
I hope that the entire Conservative caucus will be here in the House tomorrow for Canadians, rather than going to oppose reproductive health. That is what Canadian women deserve.

Mr. Speaker, the Conservative leader opposes pharmacare and our plan to provide free contraception prescriptions to Canadians, and we all know why. The leader and his caucus' ideological objection to reproductive freedoms is putting all Canadians at risk.
Yesterday the member for Peace River—Westlock sponsored an anti-choice petition. The member for Yorkton—Melville has introduced several private member's bills that would serve as a sneaky back door to limit women's bodily autonomy.
One would think that someone who claims to stand for freedom would be there for women as well, but the Conservative leader is not.

Mr. Speaker, once again, Canadians saw that the Leader of the Opposition avoided pronouncing on whether or not he supports our increase to the capital gains inclusion rate.
However, in regard to his deflection to carbon pricing, carbon pricing works. We are on track to meet our emissions for the first time for any government in Canadian history, and Canadians get more money back in their pockets, thanks to the Canada carbon rebate. Families are already using that rebate to help pay their bills and plan their monthly budgets. Meanwhile, the Conservative leader continues to oppose every measure we put forward for both affordability and fighting climate change.

Mr. Speaker, last week, the Conservative Party voted against 71,000 new apartments. They voted against 15,000 affordable housing units. Now their excuse is to say that since the housing does not yet exist, they can vote against it. Come on. They clearly do not understand that it is a government's responsibility to invest for a better future, to solve problems.
He just wants to increase anxiety. He does not want to come up with solutions for Canadians. On this side of the House, we will stand up for Canadians despite the Conservatives, who oppose all these measures.

Mr. Speaker, even having watched the Leader of the Opposition in his almost 20-year political career, it is still astonishing to see the way he chooses to use any misinformation to score political points.
The fact of the matter is that he opposes the investments in manufacturing in Canada. He opposes the Stellantis deal to create EV batteries. He opposes the Volkswagen deal that is going to create up to 30,000 direct and indirect jobs in St. Thomas.
He continues to stand against a plan to grow great jobs into a net zero future, and he will use any fake excuse to try to advance that cause.

Mr. Speaker, on this side of the House, we will always stand up for minority rights.
As a Quebecker, I know how important it is to defend our beautiful French language, to defend our minority cultures, to defend our official languages and, yes, to defend religious freedom in this country.
That is why we are always going to be there to defend individual rights. That is why we oppose pre-emptive use of the notwithstanding clause, which suspends the fundamental rights of Canadians before they can even go to court to defend those rights.

Mr. Speaker, opposition parties have a responsibility to oppose what the government is doing. Sometimes we manage to see eye to eye, other times we are in disagreement.
On this side of the House, we know that we made the right choice in appointing Amira Elghawaby as special representative on combatting Islamophobia, and we support her in the important work she has ahead of her in the months and years to come.

Mr. Speaker, we are all concerned about the rising cost of living for Canadians, but on this side of the House we are providing help to Canadians. The Conservatives continue to oppose it.
We are there with help for dental care for children, we are there with help for low-income renters, we are there to ensure more affordable child care across the country. We will continue to be there for people, even though the Conservative Party continues to vote against our measures to help people.

Mr. Speaker, first of all, the Parliamentary Budget Officer confirms that eight out of 10 families receive more money back from this price on pollution than they pay into it.
At the same time, every time the Conservatives talk about removing our price on pollution, what they are talking about is taking money out of the pockets of hard-working Canadian families. The price on pollution puts more money in the pockets of average families across this country. That is how we fight climate change and support families that need it.
Speaking of support for families that need it, why are Conservatives opposed to dental and rental supports for Canadians? Why are they opposed to child care that saves thousands—

Mr. Speaker, the Conservative Party has decided it needs to oppose supports for parents to send their kids to the dentist, and the Conservative Party has decided to oppose giving a $500 top-up to low-income renters across this country to help with the rising costs of everything.
We are facing global inflation, yes, but there are things we can do to make it easier for families, things like child care, which we are moving forward on despite Conservative opposition, things like the CCB, things like the GST credit and dental and rental, which they continue to oppose.

Mr. Speaker, in this House we have put forward measures the Conservatives ended up choosing to support, which is good on them, to deliver GST rebates to Canadians that will start landing this Friday. Why will they not reverse their position on sending dental supports, so families can actually send their kids to the dentists, or support for low-income renters? These are things the Conservatives continue to oppose, concrete help that will deliver for Canadian families right across the country. The Conservatives stand, cross their arms and say, “No, we are not helping Canadians.”

Mr. Speaker, while the Conservatives are continuing to propose cuts, we are going to be there for EI, we are going to continue to be there for CPP and we are going to continue to be there to deliver a price on pollution that puts more money in the pockets of Canadians where it applies.
We moved forward with a GST rebate that is going to help 11 million households across this country, which is starting to flow this Friday. The Conservatives reversed their position and chose to support it, which is good, but they still stand against support for low-income renters and support for people to send their kids to the dentist. These are things that would really help Canadians. Why are they opposed?

Mr. Speaker, I know that no Canadian will be truly surprised to learn that those who opposed the use of the Emergencies Act at the time are still opposed today. Those of us who believed it was necessary still believe that.
That is why a public inquiry was launched. It will clarify all the reasons and justifications so that Canadians can be assured, through a non-partisan and impartial process, that it was the right thing to do, that it was done in a limited and proportionate way, and that it worked to end the illegal occupation.
