Mr. Speaker, the Leader of the Opposition's criticism is that there are too many measures in our housing plan. Housing should be solved by a simple, one-size-fits-all solution according to the Leader of the Opposition. That is perhaps how he managed to build only six affordable homes when he was the minister of housing.
We have a broad range of initiatives that are delivering on housing, like topping up the housing accelerator fund with $400 million and a new $6-billion Canada housing infrastructure fund to help communities build. We are leveraging transit funding to build more homes. We are launching a housing design catalogue. We are also incentivizing more skilled trade workers.

Mr. Speaker, that is pure nonsense. Our government has been there to invest in public transit more than any other government.
As a proud Montreal MP, I can say that our actions in support of the blue line and the REM and of continued investment in public transit in Montreal, Quebec City and across the country are not going to stop.
We set up an infrastructure program to invest in public transit on a permanent and ongoing basis for decades to come. We will continue to be there for Montreal, for Montrealers and for all Quebeckers and Canadians when it comes to public transit.

Mr. Speaker, we will continue to end boil water advisories across the country. When we took office in 2015, there were 109 long-term boil water advisories. We have now lifted about 135 or 140, perhaps even a few more. We are going to continue to lift long-term boil water advisories in ways that are building infrastructure, supporting communities and solving this generations-long problem.
We are here to continue to work with indigenous communities on solving these problems, in true partnership, in building for the long-term future every Canadian and indigenous person deserves.

Mr. Speaker, our government has chosen to build bridges across the country through our infrastructure investments. That is how we are building bridges.
We are also building bridges by fully engaging with all the various communities throughout the country, by listening to points of view and by understanding just how important it is to defend the fundamental liberties of all Canadians, whatever their origin, religion or language may be.
We will continue to be there to uphold the Constitution and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. That is how we are building bridges between Canadians.

Mr. Speaker, we just announced two more housing accelerator agreements today in Whitehorse and in Saskatoon, adding to the dozens of agreements we have signed across the country to fast-track the construction of housing, over 600,000 homes. The Conservative Party's plan, which he is talking about, is to insult mayors and to cut critical infrastructure funding. It will not get any more homes built.
Cities understand that we need to change the rules to get more homes built faster. Indeed, the only one gatekeeping this progress is the Conservative leader himself.

Mr. Speaker, once again, the minister has clarified his remarks.
Our approach to infrastructure continues to be one of investing in the future for Canadians. Through the national trade corridors fund alone, we are building projects like a new bridge over the Yukon River in Dawson City, new interchanges on Highways 101 and 103 in Nova Scotia, and twinning the Trans-Canada Highway in parts of Newfoundland. We are also working with municipalities through the community building fund. Just in Ontario, this means almost 2,900 projects for local roads and bridges.
What has not changed, as well, is the Conservative Party's opposition to investing in the future and investing in—

Our government's approach to investing in trade corridors and roads that Canadians rely on has not changed since 2015. We will continue to step up. We got projects like the Samuel de Champlain Bridge in Montreal across the finish line, and we are going to get others like the Gordie Howe bridge built. We are going to continue to invest in infrastructure.
What also has not changed is the Conservative Party's opposition to investments in roads, communities, bridges and ports right across the country, as we grow the economy, because all the Conservative leader is offering is cuts, cuts, cuts.

Mr. Speaker, I am sure that Quebeckers will be pleased to hear that the Conservative Party is still in favour of this third link, which is no longer happening.
The reality is that our government's approach to investing in transportation systems and roads has not changed since 2015. There have been projects such as the new Samuel de Champlain Bridge or the Gordie Howe international bridge that is being built.
We will always be there to invest in infrastructure and, apparently, the Conservative Party will always be there to vote against our investments in infrastructure.

Mr. Speaker, the minister has clarified his remarks. The reality is that our approach to infrastructure has not changed. Since 2015, we have invested billions of dollars in infrastructure, be it bridges, ports or roads. We are going to continue to be there to invest in infrastructure across the country. Our approach has not changed.
It has to be said that the Conservative Party's approach has not changed either. The Conservatives vote against our investments in infrastructure, against our investments in bridges, in roads, in help for rural communities, as well as big cities. They consistently vote against it all.

Mr. Speaker, Canada has long been involved in investing in infrastructure around the world because we know that it creates growth and opportunity in the global south. It continues to contribute to fighting climate change, as people are building more resilient infrastructure and indeed energy infrastructure. We are part of multilateral development banks all around the world.
As the Leader of the Opposition pointed out, we are reviewing our participation in the Asian infrastructure bank, and we will make the decision that is right for Canadians.

Mr. Speaker, as we have said all along, foreign interference should not be a partisan issue. That is why, in the coming days, the Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities will continue to consult experts, lawyers and the opposition parties to determine the next steps and the best person to lead this work.
In the meantime, we will continue working to combat foreign interference in our democracy, as we have done since taking office. We hope that the opposition parties will treat this issue with the seriousness that it deserves and that Canadians expect.

Mr. Speaker, it goes back and forth a little bit, but I can assure the members opposite that we are actually, right now, signing agreements, and have been for quite a while, that include obligations around densification around public transit and tying infrastructure funding to building houses in places like Hamilton and elsewhere. They were glad to be able to take ideas from us and now blame us for taking ideas from them.
It is nice to hear some ideas from them, but what we always see from them is the choice of cuts, while we choose to invest. We choose to be there for Canadians, and we are buildings houses, homes and opportunities for Canadians.

Mr. Speaker, part of question period and answer period needs to be taking “yes” for an answer. I said yes. Not only do we like the idea of density around public transit spaces, but we have been doing it for years. We have been putting it in our agreements with municipalities as we invest historic amounts in public transit.
The former Conservative government refused to invest in any infrastructure larger than a doorknob or an economic action plan sign. We are continuing to invest in significant public transit, including with a permanent public transit fund, something the Conservatives have again campaigned against.
We will continue to be there to invest in Canadians.

Mr. Speaker, when we took office eight years ago, we made a commitment to Canadians that we would invest in the kinds of infrastructure that would grow our economy, would create good jobs and would create opportunities for all Canadians. That is exactly what we have been doing through various ways such as investing in public transit, investing in new trade corridors and investing in record amounts of housing.
We know that Canadians want to see a better future built, every single day, in this country. That is why we will take no lessons from the Conservatives on not spending and investing in infrastructure, other than a few doorknobs here and there. We will continue to move forward on infrastructure.
