Mr. Speaker, when we got elected, the first thing we did was raise taxes on the wealthiest 1% and lower them for the middle class, a measure that the Conservative Party voted against. We have continued to invest in young people and to invest in a national housing strategy after the previous government completely ignored housing. The former housing minister, who is now Leader of the Opposition, was responsible for creating exactly six affordable homes in his time as minister. We have continued to invest and we are going to continue to make sure that the economy is fair for every generation. That means asking the wealthiest to pay a little more so we can put more money in the pockets of the middle class.

Mr. Speaker, we have demonstrated from day one that we are there to work with the provinces to invest in the care economy, whether it is commitments to raise personal support worker wages to $25 an hour, whether it is through our historic child care agreements that are creating wage grids for early childhood educators or whether it is moving forward on strengthening support for indigenous communities and for care workers in and from indigenous communities, we will continue to be there. We recognize there is more work to do. We are there to do it, hand in hand with the different jurisdictions across the country.

Mr. Speaker, once again, never letting the facts get in the way of a good political argument is the Leader of the Opposition's modus operandi. He says that if we were to raise child care fees in Canada instead of cutting them in half, if we were to not deliver dental care for young kids across this country, then, suddenly, inflation, which is impacting the world all over, would drop, that Canada is so important in the world that our lowest deficits in the GDP are contributing massively to this global inflation context. It is complete garbage from the Leader of the Opposition.

Mr. Speaker, over the past number of years, as Canadians know, we have been talking about what we are doing here in Canada. We have been singing the praises, quite literally, of Canadian workers, of Canadian companies and of Canadian know-how. We do this as we lead the fight against climate change, step up on indigenous reconciliation and invest in the middle class, with such measures as dental care and cuts to middle-class taxes, which the Conservatives voted against. That has led to Volkswagen, Michelin and other companies investing in Canada because they see what we are doing. We will continue to promote Canada and Canadian workers right across the country.

Mr. Speaker, political party financing in Canada is governed by a robust, sound, transparent system. Perhaps the Bloc Québécois is struggling a little to raise money, but the reality is that all political parties engage with Canadians. The Liberal Party does it in a completely open and transparent way. The media is invited to every one of my fundraisers. I encourage the leaders of the Bloc Québécois and the Conservative Party to do the same. We will always be open and transparent about our fundraising, because Canadians must be able to have faith in our democracy.

  • Re: Bill C-31
Mr. Speaker, I would like to raise a viable alternative to fighting inflation. Two specific responsible measures will be implemented, thanks to the recent passage of Bill C-31: help for Canadians to pay their rents and support for their children to be able to receive proper dental care. While the Conservatives think Bitcoin and buzzwords will solve inflation, we on this side will always stand on the side of supporting the middle class.
