Uqaqtittiji, I would like to thank the member for his intervention and for mentioning the national food program, which I think is quite important.
I would like to know what he would say to all the Nunavut children. Even with the program, they will still go to school without enough sleep because they are forced to sleep in overcrowded housing situations. They are forced to go to school without enough sleep because of the mouldy housing conditions they are forced to endure. They have no place to do home work and have schools that are falling apart.
What does he say to those children who might have the national food program, but they still struggle with hurdles to graduate with the same level of grade 12 as other Canadians?

Uqaqtittiji, I would like to thank my excellent colleague from South Okanagan—West Kootenay. I always enjoy his interventions, his great work and his leadership on educating us in the area of science.
I want to ask him a quick question about what the budget could do to make sure that we are doing better to address climate change. I know he is in a riding where that is a huge issue. I wonder if he could speak to that.

I wonder if the member could share with us what she thinks would happen after March 17 if we do not meet this deadline, this really important deadline, which we need to avoid so we can make sure what she has been talking about is protected. Could she explain to us what she thinks would happen with the March 17 deadline if we were not able to meet it without the amendments being made?

Uqaqtittiji, happy new year to everyone. It is my first time speaking since 2024 arrived.
I would like to thank the member for his intervention. Thanks to the supply and confidence agreement between the Liberals and the NDP, we have been able to secure a great dental care program for children. I wonder what the member will be saying to his constituents about why he voted against dental care for children in his riding.

Uqaqtittiji, I really appreciate the member's intervention. I am so glad that he focused on subsidies to major for-profit corporations. That is something that Nunavummiut northern residents have a major issue with.
As an example, the federal government, in 2022, between July and September, subsidized southern non-indigenous, for-profit corporations in the amount of $30 million. In three months, $30 million went to for-profit corporations.
Does the member agree that the $30 million could have done more by making improvements to indigenous peoples' lives if it was targeted to support hunters and trappers organizations that support their communities?

Uqaqtittiji, I would like to thank the member for his thoughtful intervention. This is indeed a difficult debate because we are talking about something that is inevitable for all of us. The difference is ending suffering and how some people have the privilege to die with dignity while others have no choice but to feel like ending their lives through suicide.
This is a very difficult question or debate. We want to talk about ensuring practice standards that meet everyone's needs, so mental health issues are addressed and people with mental illnesses also get the help they need. Given his experience with someone with mental illness, could the member talk about how this kind of discussion needs to be opened up in the next year?
