Mr. Speaker, because of the incompetence of the Prime Minister and the Liberal mayor of Montreal, the wait time for a building permit has doubled and rents have tripled.
In Ville-Marie, where the mayor is also in power, it takes 540 days to get a building permit. What is the Prime Minister doing? He is handing out another $95 million to build his bureaucracy.
Why not impose financial penalties on municipal politicians who block housing starts?

Mr. Speaker, the incompetence of this Prime Minister and the Liberal mayor of Montreal, who is blocking construction, has caused rents to triple in Montreal.
We learned the worst today. Under the headline “Major holdup”, La Presse reported that, “since 2019, [building] permit wait times have more than doubled.”
Why is the Prime Minister continuing to send $95 million to politicians and municipalities that are blocking construction?

Mr. Speaker, is he seriously accusing me of causing Quebeckers anxiety? It is like he is saying that Quebeckers would never have noticed that their rent has doubled if I had not mentioned it. Does he think Quebeckers cannot read numbers? He says the economy is not about numbers, but rents are numbers. The prices we pay when we buy food at the grocery store are numbers.
Will he finally look at the numbers and see that he is not worth the cost?

Mr. Speaker, that is what the Prime Minister has been saying for nine years, and the results have been doubled rents, doubled mortgage payments and doubled down payments. Just this week, a survey showed that 72% of Canadians who do not own a home believe they never will.
Canada was not like this before the current Prime Minister, and surely, it will not be like this after he is gone. Can the Prime Minister comment on what it is like to be the only prime minister in history to deprive an entire generation of home ownership?

Mr. Speaker, it just proves what I said earlier. He is not interested in Ukraine. When I asked about rental prices, he started spreading disinformation about Ukraine. He could not care less about the war effort over there. He only cares about distracting from his failures at home.
One of his failures is that rents have tripled in Montreal. The builders association says that this year will be one of the worst.
Why has the price of housing gone down in the United States while it is ballooning here in Canada?

Eight years ago, the Prime Minister promised to spend $87 billion on affordable housing. As a result, rents and mortgage payments doubled. Now, evictions have increased by 132% in Quebec. The main cause of homelessness is evictions after eight years of this Prime Minister.

Let me quote the organization realtor.com in the United States: “October 2023 marks the sixth month in a row of year-over-year rent decline”. Rentals.ca in Canada says, “For the sixth month in a row, asking rents in Canada hit a new high”.

According to the United States' Realtor.com website, October 2023 was the sixth consecutive month of rent decreases over a one-year period. According to the Rentals.ca website, “Canada's rents continued to reach new heights” for the sixth consecutive month.
Why is the cost of rent falling in the United States and rising faster in Canada than at any other time in its history?

Mr. Speaker, there is one good-news headline: “Apartment rents are on the verge of declining due to massive new supply”. Unfortunately, that is a CNBC headline from the United States of America.
Here is a CBC headline from Canada: “Rent is going up more than $100 a month right now”. Another one, and the Prime Minister's favourite, is from the Toronto Star. It says that this year, we are having worse construction numbers than during the lockdown.
Why is construction up and rent down south of the border, when it is just the opposite here in Canada?

Mr. Speaker, to be clear, this is a villa that rents out, commercially, for as much as $9,000 per night. If any other Canadian had stayed there, that is what they would have had to pay, and they would have had to pay for their own airfare, not having a private jet.
The Prime Minister wants us to believe that these Trudeau Foundation donors offered him a $9,000-a-night vacation for nothing. We know nothing is free. This is about influence and power for the super-rich.
Why will the Prime Minister not answer? How much did he pay in accommodation per night at this luxurious villa?

Mr. Speaker, well, after eight years in power, rents have doubled from $1,000 to $2,000. Monthly mortgage payments have doubled from $1,500 to well over $3,000. One in five Canadians is skipping meals, and half of Canadians are cutting groceries because of the food price inflation that his carbon tax has caused.
Where is the money going? There was $15 billion for high-priced consultants like McKinsey. When he hired McKinsey, he announced that it was for $1 a year, up to at least $120 million a year.
How do you explain that? It is just inflation?
