Madam Speaker, my colleague said she wanted to base her speech on facts, but there is apparently some alternate world out there about facts. She mentioned that the fossil fuel sector has just less than 200,000 employees in Canada. The clean energy sector already has 430 employees, and it is expected to grow by more than 200,000 over the next 10 years. That is where her constituents and workers across Canada are looking. I will close by saying she should read John Vaillant's book Fire Weather, which is about her province, about the world, about climate change and about the industry that she is such a fierce protector of.

Madam Speaker, I have always enjoyed the member's speeches and hearing his learned thoughts. It is great to hear de Tocqueville brought up and that sort of history. I like being here, and we have seen in the past few weeks and months that basically everybody is here. I would like to hear a good argument against a hybrid Parliament that addresses accommodating the people who cannot be here, like the people who are sick, the people who are—

Mr. Speaker, the member's speech was very thoughtful. Child care is an important issue. My own daughter is struggling to find child care for her daughter, my granddaughter. We are here until midnight debating the bill. Actually, we are debating the Conservative amendment to the bill, which is something I assume Conservatives think would improve it, and that is to delete the short title of the bill. I am just wondering if the member can tell me, without looking, what the short title of the bill is and what Conservatives find so offensive about it?

Madam Speaker, the hon. member's speeches are always so enthusiastic, entertaining and really on point. I have to agree with everything he said, pretty much. I agree that the $500 for rental support is basically a part-time solution, just as the dental care solution in this bill is basically a down payment on a real program that will help all Canadians. This is more of a comment. I was going to bring up Vienna as an example and then the member mentioned it. I think we in Canada have to look beyond our borders and certainly beyond North America for the solution we need for the housing crisis. One of our problems is that we live next to the United States, which does not provide a lot of those solutions. I want to thank the member for his speech.

Mr. Speaker, I would like to thank the member for his speech tonight and for his on-the-ground reporting as to what is really going on on Cape Breton Island. He made the point that the reason behind this and other disasters we have been facing is climate change. I am wondering, given the member's role in this, if he would like to comment on the role that indigenous people across Canada should and could be taking in leading the fight against climate change, the fight we all have to be engaged in.

Madam Speaker, I thank my hon. colleague for her great speech. I think we all agree on this bill. It is a good bill, and it is important. In the spirit of co-operation, I would like to ask my colleague how she would improve this bill.

Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague from Sarnia—Lambton for her speech. The NDP believes that the Commissioner of Official Languages must have more powers to ensure that the Official Languages Act is respected and that there are consequences if it is not. I would ask the Conservatives if they will support changes at committee so that the commissioner has these necessary powers.
