Mr. Speaker, I would like to say that I do agree with the member and what he said. In particular, I would bring to the attention of the Chair that there is still a member of Parliament on this side of the House who has not spoken in about a month and a half because he accused Conservatives of being pro-Russia. As a result, your deputy asked him to withdraw his comment. He did not want to withdraw because he believed what he was saying was correct. As a result, he has not been able to speak for about six weeks. In your consideration about this issue, I would ask that you also consider whether or not it is appropriate to make a statement like that, because I would agree with the member for Edmonton—Wetaskiwin that this would be limiting the words we can use in this House.

As I was trying to say, Madam Speaker, when you are asking a member to withdraw a comment and they withdraw it, it should be based on their acceptance that you have ruled it as unparliamentary, not because they think it caused a disturbance and therefore they should be doing it.

Madam Speaker, when somebody withdraws a comment because they self-reflected on it, it has to come from an acceptance that it is not parliamentary. A member does not withdraw a comment just because it— Some hon. members: Oh, oh!

Madam Speaker, the member just used a term that the Conservatives have decided to coin around the Prime Minister's first name and “inflation”. This has been ruled not to be admissible parliamentary language in this House. The Speaker, on a previous point of order that I raised, reconfirmed that. I would ask that you ask the member to withdraw that comment.

Madam Speaker, there is a lot to unpack in the question. However, specific to the member's comments about CPP, it is a program that people are investing in for the long term. In theory, the people who are investing in it today will not be making withdrawals from it for several years, depending on how far they are from retirement, and we need to make sure that the investments continue to remain up so that when those individuals look to retire 20, 30, 40 years from now or whatever it might be, they have an opportunity to have economic security when they retire. The member brought up a couple of other points that escape me right now, but perhaps one of his colleagues will ask them and I will be able to answer them then.
