Mr. Speaker, the government's own impact assessment on its clean fuel regulations says that the regulations are estimated to increase the price of gasoline and diesel, that “low-income households may be disproportionately affected by...[r]egulations”, and that rural Canadians “may have limited opportunity to reduce their fuel consumption in response to higher [fuel] prices.” Why did the government ignore its own advice and plow ahead with the second carbon tax?

Madam Speaker, a constituent named Sharon called me the other day to say that she cannot afford to drive to the city for groceries because gas prices are crazy. Many agree with Sharon, especially rural and low-income Canadians. Last week, the average gas price was 85¢ less per litre in the United States compared with Canada. Why? Because the Liberals love taxing fuel. Why has the government not provided any tax relief for Canadians at the pumps?

Mr. Speaker, the cost of gas has reached record highs. I know the Prime Minister has never made a living in rural Canada, but rural Canadians need to fill up their gas tanks to live their lives. They cannot take the subway to work. They cannot walk their kids to hockey. They cannot take the bus to town. I think Canadians deserve a break. Will the Prime Minister reduce the cost of fuel by removing the GST from gas and diesel?
