Madam Chair, it is essential that we modernize our system in general and more specifically in the area about which the member asked questions. The member is right. With climate change, there are many changes happening around the world, particularly in the food industry. I am very concerned about that. It is essential that we modernize our system and ensure that it is efficient. At the same time, we need to ensure quality and protect public health. We need to find a balance between the two. I really appreciated the fact that, in his question, the member emphasized respect for the independence of the people who make these decisions. I want to work with the member on this issue.

Madam Speaker, that is not the case at all. It is very unfortunate that such things are being said, especially when we know that our correctional system is founded on independence and that we have one of the best correctional systems in the world. If they want to discuss the importance of this issue and the emotions it stirs up, that is entirely valid. However, it is important to have that conversation responsibly and honestly.

Mr. Speaker, it is not up to me to respond. It is up to Canada's laws to protect the independence of any type of foundation in Canada. The law is there to ensure their independence, and it is totally irresponsible to attack a foundation that is responsible for awarding scholarships and ensuring that there is money for the future leaders of our country.

Mr. Speaker, Canada has the strictest and strongest rules to protect the independence of charities of any kind. It is unacceptable to attack an independent foundation which has no ties with the Prime Minister. This foundation is responsible for student grants to ensure that future generations have the funds they need to become the future leaders of our country. It is not acceptable to attack an independent charity like that.

Mr. Speaker, I have already answered the question my colleague just asked. However, I have a question for my colleague opposite. What does he think about the attack on the CBC? What does he think about the position of his party's leader, who is attacking the CBC's independence? What is the position of the member opposite on that issue?

Mr. Speaker, more games. This serves the parties across the way. It is partisanship. It is obvious. They keep asking questions on things that have nothing to do with reality. That is the case for CBC. Attacking the independence of the CBC is totally unacceptable. It is an attack on an independent institution that is very important for our country.

Mr. Speaker, when it comes to public safety, it is absolutely essential during debates to rely on facts. Certainly, Mr. Johnston's independence is unmistakable. He is a former governor general of Canada, someone appointed by Prime Minister Harper. He has clearly demonstrated throughout his career that he is here for Canada. No doubt, this will still hold true in this instance.
