Madam Speaker, I am always a bit shocked to see the Conservatives, who believe in the free market and capitalism, refuse to put a price on pollution, when that consists in using market rules to change people's behaviour. I find that to be inconsistent with their philosophical framework. In fact, my colleague is saying that if the rest of the world does not take the initiative, we should not do anything. The United States, and specifically the states of California and New England, already participate in the carbon exchange with Quebec. We are already competitive. Why does the member not recognize that?

Mr. Speaker, a number of people who crossed into Canada at Roxham Road have come to my office in Montreal. Contrary to what the Bloc Québécois says, Roxham Road is nothing like an all-inclusive vacation. The Quebec National Assembly adopted a motion yesterday to denounce this insensitive and out-of-touch comparison, one that feeds prejudice. Liberal inaction on this issue has also left room for this kind of divisive and misleading rhetoric. When will the Liberals suspend the safe third country agreement so we can finally fix this?

Mr. Speaker, thousands of migrants are fleeing persecution and seeking refuge in Canada. They are not illegal, just desperate. The Liberals decided to help a Liberal Party donor make money at these people's expense. Rather than resolving the situation, the Liberals are writing cheques to a friend to lease land near Roxham Road to house asylum seekers. However, all the Liberals had to do was withdraw from the safe third country agreement with the United States, and the problem would be solved. Why would the Liberals rather give gifts to their friends than help the most vulnerable?
