Madam Speaker, The Charter of Freedoms and RightsIs now in a whole bunch of fightsFrom Religion to SpeechLibs extended their reach And the courtrooms are full of their plightsLet us start with the censorship billsC-11 and 18 are the pillsThat restrict what we seeAnd take down if they don't agreeAgainst all Canadians' willsAnd then let's go on to the guns That sports shooters will use just for funThey'll put in a banWhile the crooks to a man Will keep theirs while charges are none. The privacy rights of us all Will be toast if their bill doesn't fallC-27 won't aid Our European trade If it doesn't comply with their callAnd this is the end of my rhyme Because I've just run out of timeOr for sure there'd be more I could say on this scoreOur rights I'll protect, they're sublime.

Mr. Speaker, I heard that the Premier of Quebec sent the Minister of Canadian Heritage a letter to say that he was concerned about the fact that the bill would infringe on freedom of expression. Is the hon. member also concerned?

Mr. Speaker, I want to thank my colleague for her hard work in standing up for freedom. The Senate looked at this with its sober second thought, and it came up with an amendment that tried to protect people's individual content and to exclude that from the scope of the bill. Why does the member think that the Liberal government will not support that amendment?

Madam Speaker, my question for the member opposite is this. He seems to be very offended by the violation of charter rights and freedoms by all kinds of other levels of government. What would he say about his own government and the continual attacks on freedom of expression, freedom of religion, mobility rights and the like?

Madam Speaker, freedoms are under attack in this country, from the freedom of speech, with a censorship bill, Bill C-11, that would control Canadians' online content, to freedom of the press, with Bill C-18, which may result in news content being blocked from Canadians or may disadvantage small, independent news outlets. Then there is freedom of religion, with the infamous Canada summer jobs attestation, the burning of 15 Christian churches in Canada without a word from the government and the hiring of an anti-Semitic racist to advise the Liberal government on anti-racism. Also, our freedom to enter and leave Canada and freely move between provinces was violated for two years during the pandemic for the unvaccinated. As for freedom from unlawful search and seizure, the Liberals will be confiscating the property of lawful gun owners. I am here to stand up for our freedoms, and I hope others will do the same.

Mr. Speaker, I am also very concerned about our democracy. Three million Canadians have had their charter right to freely enter and leave the country violated by the government and mandates. They are mandates that the government is continuing to add to, at a time when the World Health Organization and medical experts are saying that these kinds of restrictions are not working, now that omicron is everywhere. On top of that, there are the digital privacy violations that the government has committed. On top of that, the government is freezing bank accounts. I have emails from people in my riding who are claiming that they had their accounts frozen for buying a “freedom convoy” t-shirt. In part (f) in the Gazette, it says that the Prime Minister can take “other temporary measures authorized that are not yet known.” I think that basically means that if the Emergencies Act is put in place, he can do whatever he wants and there is no coming back from it. Will my NDP colleague vote against this legislation, recognizing that charter rights continue to be violated?
