Mr. Speaker, as the minister responsible for the bargaining process, here is another update for the Canadians and the public servants who are watching at home. We are at the table today to try to find creative solutions that will enable us to move forward and reach an agreement. However, the government will not give in to demands that are unaffordable and that will affect our ability to provide services to Canadians. We are working tirelessly to come to an agreement, and we will do so as soon as we can.

Mr. Speaker, yesterday, I published an open letter so that we could update Canadians and public servants on where we are at in terms of the bargaining table. We have been working tirelessly to get from 570 demands to a few that we need to get done. We are doing so because we are at the bargaining table. We will continue to work tirelessly until we get a deal.

Mr. Speaker, we are currently at the table. We are negotiating with the Public Service Alliance of Canada. A great deal of progress has been made. We must remember that there were 570 demands at the outset. A few are remaining and we will get there. We will reach a fair and reasonable agreement for Canadians.

Mr. Speaker, right now, our team is working long and hard to negotiate new collective agreements that are fair, competitive and reasonable. This round of negotiations has been very difficult. The union came to the table with 570 demands. I am proud to say that there are only a handful left on the table. We need to find a balance between what is fair for employees and what is reasonable for Canadians. That is what we are currently doing with the offer that is on the table.
