Bill C-286

44th Parl. 1st Sess.
June 15, 2022
  • Bill C-286, also known as the Recognition of Foreign Credentials Act, aims to address the challenges faced by newcomers to Canada in having their foreign educational credentials recognized. The bill allows the Governor in Council, in consultation with the provinces, to make regulations concerning the recognition of foreign credentials. This will help promote the successful integration of permanent residents into Canadian society by providing certainty and transparency in the assessment and licensing processes for professions and trades. The bill defines Canadian educational credentials as diplomas, certificates or credentials issued upon the completion of a Canadian program of study or training at a recognized educational institution. Overall, this bill seeks to support newcomers in their professional and trade pursuits in Canada.
