Mr. Speaker, first, I would like to say that our hearts go out to the families of the eight firefighters who were killed in last year's wildfire season. Over 200,000 Canadians were evacuated last year. The important thing is that we work very closely with the municipalities, the provinces and territories that have the first line of defence when it comes to fighting wildfires. We will always be there for them. We are ensuring that we have the proper resources in place to make sure we are ready for this year.

Mr. Speaker, there have been discussions among the parties, and if you seek it, I believe you will find unanimous consent to adopt the following motion. I move: That, given that, (i) Canada has already experienced a record amount of land burned this wildfire season, (ii) tens of thousands of Canadians have had to evacuate their communities at some point over these past few months, (iii) wildfire risk is expected to remain high as we head into the summer, The House: (a) express its deepest gratitude to the firefighters and first responders across Canada for their tireless efforts to date and to come; (b) thank the many international allies who have stepped forward to help; and (c) express its strong support to everyone on the ground as they continue to protect our communities.
