Mr. Speaker, that member voted against the Canada child benefit or her party did. That member voted against dental care for our most vulnerable children and seniors. That member voted against child care. That member regularly obstructs and voted against 130 measures before Christmas that would have supported the very people she professes to want to help. This will be a recurring debate in this chamber. These people like to talk in slogans with glib lines— Some hon. members: Oh, oh!

  • Re: Bill C-35
Mr. Speaker, here is what I can say: Every time we bring a bill to this House for debate at second reading, it does not really matter what it is. It could be called the “the sky is blue act”. The Conservatives would pose dilatory motions. For Canadians who are watching this, what the Conservatives do is they move concurrence on a committee report from six months ago that no one has talked about since. They bring aimless and pointless questions of privilege to the floor, things that prevent us from getting to the work we have to do. The member voted for child care. I will put it to her right now: Will she go to her leader and ask that we be able to put Bill C-35 to a vote today, at all stages, so that Albertans can have access to the child care they deserve?

Mr. Speaker, I rise on a point of order. I wish to bring to your attention a possible incident of coercion of a member of Parliament during the vote previous to this one. The member for Renfrew—Nipissing—Pembroke was captured on the screen speaking into her microphone and asking if she had voted slowly enough. We wish to know who was coaching, who was pulling the puppet strings on this member, what kind of coercion was being exerted upon her and whether this is something that the Speaker should investigate.

Madam Speaker, on February 20, a pillar of the student community at Polyvalente Le Carrefour passed away. Éric Noël-de-Tilly was a devoted history teacher who treated his students with unwavering respect and love. Over the years, he passed on his passion for civic engagement to his students in order to teach them the meaning of democracy. Because of him, several hundred students participated in the 30‑hour famine. Today is the 30th edition of this event, and I will be there to honour the memory of this dedicated teacher. Mr. Noël-de-Tilly is a citizen, a teacher, a role model and a colleague we will never forget. My thoughts are with his family, especially his four children. I offer them my deepest condolences, and I thank the entire Polyvalente Le Carrefour community for keeping his spirit alive. Thank you for everything, Éric.

Madam Speaker, it has been brought to my attention that the hon. member for Humber River—Black Creek inadvertently voted yesterday and should not have done so under paragraph (i) of section (q) of the motion adopted by the House on November 25, 2021. I therefore ask that her vote be withdrawn.
