Madam Chair, I want to build on the comment from the NDP member and talk about that. I mean, the line is the logistical challenge of Canada providing, for example, natural gas to Europe, but the other logistical challenge we have, and that Europe faces, is that they are reliant on Russian energy at this point. Part of the opportunity, as we look at the perspective we have as Canadians, is the attention to the human rights and a global perspective in what we are seeing here. Our record on the environment, our record in the international community, stands much better than Russia's. I would like the member for Saanich—Gulf Islands to talk about the logistical reality of Russia having Europe caught in a bind when it comes to natural gas. Can Canada not play a better role?

Madam Chair, my hon. colleague was referencing in her previous intervention the economic pressures that we can put on Russia. We have seen that from the global community in the last couple of days. I believe, in the coming days, we are going to see even more pressure and more success through that. I would like my colleague to take the opportunity to talk about some of the economic measures that have been done to date, and elaborate further on how Russia, for years, has used its energy sector to fund its war machine. How could we stop that? How could we send a message and set that precedent that we are not going to accept that in a global community?

Madam Chair, the speech by my colleague from across the aisle was a personal one in connection to what we are seeing unfold in the world today. I am with him in saying that I believe this House is united, that the parties are united, that Canadians are united. It has been wonderful to see the number of countries around the world calling out this horrific invasion and the tactics of Putin for what they are. We have talked about military support and what is necessary for that, but one of the things we do not talk often about enough, I believe, is something that has been unfolding over the last few days. It is the impact of the economic sanctions that are immediately being felt in Russia. There has been strong support for removing Russian banks from SWIFT, the central bank, and numerous other economic sanctions that have an impact. I would appreciate his comments on that, on how through globalization it presents some challenges, but there is an opportunity to make a difference in the situation.
