Mr. Speaker, February is Black History Month. All year round, but in this month in particular, we highlight the contributions of Black Canadians and Black excellence. In Pierrefonds—Dollard, we have a number of luminaries. Joan Lee is the president of the West Island Black Community Association. Through her leadership, WIBCA continues to be at the forefront of serving the needs of Black West Islanders. I would also like to acknowledge the work of Asmick Jean-Jacques, the director of La Corde youth centre. The centre helps build strong and stable young people to build Canada's tomorrow. Errol Johnson is a long-standing member of our community. He is the deputy mayor of Dollard-des-Ormeaux and has been a city councillor for over 30 years. He is the co-founder of the West Island Blues Festival and raises funds for non-profits. There are so many others, like Malik Shaheed and Akilah Newton, who deserve to be mentioned. They have done excellent work. We salute them and we thank them for their service.

Mr. Speaker, it is a pleasure to rise and welcome two groups to Parliament Hill today, the Pierrefonds—Dollard youth council and a mixed group of youth and seniors from the West Island Black Community Association, WIBCA. The Pierrefonds—Dollard youth council meets every month to discuss issues of importance to the riding. The council is a regular contributor to community activities. The presence of young people in our political system is crucial. It is these very people who will, before we know it, lead our country. A second group, WIBCA, is also here today. For over 40 years, WIBCA has contributed to promoting an accurate understanding of who Black Montrealers are. It also regularly brings together West Islanders. This is an important intergenerational visit. Seniors impart wisdom and life experience to youth. Seniors also help guide our future generations. I am eager to continue working with youth, seniors and diverse communities to strengthen the social ties within West Island and beyond.

Mr. Speaker, I am proud to rise today to talk about an organization that is doing fantastic work on behalf of the Black community in Pierrefonds—Dollard. The West Island Black Community Association, properly known as WIBCA, is celebrating its 40th anniversary this month. This wonderful organization provides a wide array of services to all segments of society while also empowering Montreal's Black community. Its services include a clinic, a scholarship program, its first-ever robotics expo being inaugurated this week and fitness programs, as well as security and financial literacy workshops for seniors. I want to thank the West Island Black Community Association for playing such a vital role in the pandemic response and for its hard work in our community. I thank them for making the West Island a better place. I look forward to celebrating this important milestone with them.
