Mr. Speaker, in Ville-Marie, where the mayor of Montreal was elected, it takes 540 days to get a building permit. What is more, the Bloc Québécois voted against the bill to build housing. That is called incompetence. It is absolutely ridiculous that this Liberal-Bloc government is not demanding that the cities speed up housing construction. Why is the Prime Minister rejecting common sense and still protecting the incompetence of the mayors who support him?

Mr. Speaker, after more than eight years of this Liberal government, we all know it is not worth the cost. Housing prices continue to rise at a breakneck pace and the government is overlooking municipalities in plans to increase new housing construction. Will the Prime Minister finally build housing and cut red tape in his next budget?

Mr. Speaker, I wish I had been a fly on the wall when the Prime Minister and the mayor of Montreal had their talk about housing. The Plante administration blocked the construction of 25,000 homes and apartments, yet this Prime Minister is rewarding it for its incompetence by continuing to send cheques. Clearly, the meeting amounted to nothing. Why not tie municipal funding to the number of housing units built? That is simple common sense.
