Mr. Speaker, a year ago, I was on an official visit to Scandinavia when my father died unexpectedly. It was not possible to return to Lebanon to mourn with my family. My father taught me that humans are more alike than they are different. He taught me to respect those of different races and those who have different thoughts and viewpoints. It was not just words. That was the way he lived. He believed in bringing people together, not pushing them apart. He wanted to build people up, not tear them down. He taught me to put the needs of others first. He taught me compassion and service. Words of thanks do not seem to be enough.
