44th Parl. 1st Sess.
March 24, 2022
  • Bill C-259 is a proposed amendment to the Aeronautics Act in Canada. The purpose of this bill is to require certain types of aircraft to be equipped with a GPS-based collision avoidance system. Specifically, gliders with an enclosed cockpit that weigh more than 200 kg, as well as any aircraft used for towing those gliders, would be required to have this system. This amendment is intended to enhance the safety of these aircraft by mitigating the risk of collisions.

Bill C-260

44th Parl. 1st Sess.
March 24, 2022
  • Bill C-260 is a bill that establishes criteria and conditions for cash contributions by Canada towards post-secondary education. These criteria must be met by the provinces before they can receive funding. The bill aims to protect and promote access to post-secondary education, ensure quality education, and encourage financial assistance programs for students. It also addresses issues of academic independence and fair employment practices. The bill allows for the reduction or withholding of funding if a province or its educational institutions fail to meet the criteria. The Minister of Employment and Social Development is responsible for overseeing the implementation of this Act and preparing an annual report on its administration. The Government of Quebec has the option to be exempted from some provisions of this Act while still receiving funding.

Bill C-258

44th Parl. 1st Sess.
March 04, 2022
  • Bill C-258 is an amendment to the Fisheries Act in Canada. It prohibits the commercial use of finfish aquaculture in Canadian fisheries waters off the Pacific Coast, unless it is done in closed containment facilities. Closed containment facilities are solid wall structures onshore or offshore that prevent fish, parasites, waste, and pollutants from escaping into the surrounding marine systems. The Minister of Fisheries and Oceans is required to create a plan to support the transition to closed containment facilities and protect the jobs and financial security of workers in the sector. This plan will include measures such as training and income support through the employment insurance system.
