  • This is a bill passed by the House of Commons in Canada called the First Nations Fiscal Management Act. It expands and modernizes the mandates of the First Nations Tax Commission and the First Nations Financial Management Board. It establishes a First Nations Infrastructure Institute that provides tools to manage infrastructure. It provides First Nations with the power to make laws to regulate services. It also simplifies the way certain Indigenous groups participate in pooled-borrowing. The bill makes consequential amendments to the Access to Information Act and to the Privacy Act.

  • The Strengthening Environmental Protection for a Healthier Canada Act amends the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999, among other things, to recognize an individual's right to a healthy environment and require the government to protect that right. It also expands regulation-making, information-gathering, and pollution prevention powers, and requires vulnerable populations to be considered when assessing substances. The act also makes related amendments to the Food and Drugs Act to enable the assessment and management of risks to the environment associated with foods, drugs, cosmetics, and devices, and repeals the Perfluorooctane Sulfonate Virtual Elimination Act.

  • A new bill, Bill C-13, has been passed in the House of Commons of Canada to amend the Official Languages Act and enact the Use of French in Federally Regulated Private Businesses Act. The changes include clarifying that all legal obligations related to official languages apply at all times, specifying interpretative principles regarding language rights, promoting and protecting French, and supporting the development of English and French linguistic minority communities. Additionally, the Use of French in Federally Regulated Private Businesses Act provides for rights and duties respecting the use of French as a language of service and work in relation to federally regulated private businesses in Quebec and regions with a strong francophone presence. The Act also allows for complaints to be made to the Commissioner of Official Languages and the Canada Industrial Relations Board in certain circumstances. The President of the Treasury Board
