  • This bill, called the Student Debt Relief Act, aims to develop a national strategy to reduce student loan debt in Canada. It requires the Minister of Employment and Social Development to work with provincial government representatives to create a strategy that includes measures such as canceling government-provided student loan debt, eliminating interest on these loans, increasing non-repayable student grants, and reducing the overall cost of post-secondary education. The Minister is also required to hold at least one conference with provincial government representatives to develop this strategy. The Minister must prepare a report within one year after the bill becomes law, outlining the national strategy and submit it to Parliament.
