    “the 26th report of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts, presented on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, be not now concurred in, but that it be recommitted to the Committee with instruction that: (a) it take note of the resignation of the CEO and Chair of Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC) over allegations that funds were used improperly, namely that SDTC has been accused of giving grants to startups and accelerators with ties to their senior management, as well as making payments inconsistent with the requirements of their agreement with government; and (b) in keeping with the Auditor General`s observation that Treasury Board, which is responsible for the supervision of SDTC, has not provided oversight, as well as SDTC`s mission statement claiming it is “committed to full transparency”, the committee add to its recommendations an invitation to Annette Verschuren and the whistleblowers who exposed this scandal to appear before the committee.”.

  • The Canadian Environmental Bill of Rights is a proposed law that aims to protect the environment and give Canadians certain rights related to the environment. The bill enacts the following rights for people residing in Canada: 1. The right to a healthy and ecologically balanced environment. 2. The right to reasonable, timely, and affordable access to information about the environment. 3. The right to participate in decision-making processes related to the environment, including in relation to any environmental laws or policies. 4. The right to bring a matter regarding the protection of the environment to courts or tribunals. 5. The right to request a review of any environmental laws, policies, or instruments. The bill also allows individuals to report environmental offences to the responsible Minister for investigation.   • This bill lets tradespeople and apprentices deduct travel expenses from their income tax if they work on a job site that is at least 120 km away from their home. This only applies if they had to pay for the expenses themselves and did not receive an allowance for it, and if they do not claim it as a deduction or a tax credit under any other provisions of the Income Tax Act. This rule applies starting from the 2022 taxation year.
