An Act to amend the Chemical Weapons Convention Implementation Act
  • Bill S-9 is a proposed law in Canada that aims to amend the Chemical Weapons Convention Implementation Act. This amendment would remove a schedule from the Act and any references to that schedule in order to prevent any potential discrepancies between the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons and on their Destruction and the portions of that Convention that are reproduced in the schedule. An Act to amend certain Acts and to make certain consequential amendments (firearms)
  • This is a law passed by the Canadian House of Commons that makes changes to firearms regulations. It increases the maximum penalty for firearms offences, creates a process for emergency restrictions on firearms ownership, deems certain firearms to be prohibited devices, and creates new offences for possession and distribution of computer data related to firearms. The law also amends the Firearms Act to prevent certain individuals from obtaining firearm licenses, limit the transfer of certain firearms and related items, and provide new enforcement measures. Additionally, it amends the Nuclear Safety and Control Act and the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.

Affordable Housing and Groceries Act

  • Her Excellency the Governor General recommends to the House of Commons the appropriation of public revenue under the circumstances, in the manner and for the purposes set out in a measure entitled “An Act to amend the Excise Tax Act and the Competition Act”.

    Part 1 amends the Excise Tax Act in order to implement a temporary enhancement to the GST New Residential Rental Property Rebate in respect of new purpose-built rental housing.

    Part 2 amends the Competition Act to, among other things,

    (a) establish a framework for an inquiry to be conducted into the state of competition in a market or industry;

    (b) permit the Competition Tribunal to make certain orders even if none of the parties to an agreement or arrangement — a significant purpose of which is to prevent or lessen competition in any market — are competitors; and

    (c) repeal the exceptions in sections 90.‍1 and 96 of the Act involving efficiency gains.
