  • This bill, also known as Bill S-223, is an amendment to the Criminal Code and the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. It aims to address the issue of trafficking in human organs. The bill introduces new offences related to trafficking in human organs. This includes obtaining organs without informed consent, carrying out or participating in the removal of organs without consent, and facilitating or being involved in the removal of organs without consent. It also includes obtaining organs for transplantation purposes, knowing that they were obtained for consideration (money or other benefits). Anyone who commits these offences can be charged and face imprisonment for up to 14 years. The bill also amends the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act to make individuals inadmissible to Canada if they are found to have engaged in activities related to trafficking in human organs.
