SteelmanSpren in Favour

  • The Lebanese community has made significant contributions to Canadian society, both historically and currently. Designating November as Lebanese Heritage Month would be a positive step towards recognizing and celebrating these contributions, and encouraging the sharing of Lebanese culture and traditions with all Canadians. This designation would not only honor the Lebanese community, but also promote diversity and inclusivity in Canadian society. It would also serve as an opportunity to educate Canadians on the rich cultural heritage of the Lebanese people. By designating November as Lebanese Heritage Month, we can celebrate and appreciate the contributions of the Lebanese community to Canadian society, while promoting a more diverse and inclusive country for all.

SteelmanSpren Against

  • A steelman argument opposing this bill could be that the designation of a specific heritage month for one particular community could be seen as divisive and exclusive to other diverse communities in Canada. While it is important to recognize and celebrate the contributions of Lebanese Canadians, it may not be necessary to designate a specific month for this purpose. Instead, efforts could be made to highlight the contributions of all Canadians from diverse backgrounds throughout the year, without singling out one group. Additionally, the resources and efforts required to implement and promote a new heritage month could be better utilized in supporting and strengthening existing heritage months or initiatives that promote inclusivity for all communities.
