I want to welcome Afshin Keyvani. He’s a teacher at the Greater Fort Erie Secondary School. He’s a big fan of the Fort Erie Junior B Meteors, who are in the final. I want to say to him, welcome to Queen’s Park.

I always like to listen about how much you care about children, so I think it should be easy, quite frankly, to answer this question: Why is the government still not committing to reinstating the provincial Child and Youth Advocate role that it removed? Do you not believe that the organization had positive impacts on the lives of the children in this province that we care about so dearly?

In Bill 188, fines have been increased to $250,000 under this bill, including the ability to fine that provides direct—but not to individuals. While this is supportive, we see what’s happened in the long-term-care system, that increased fines don’t always mean fines will actually be enforced. Why the Conservative government continues to do that, I don’t know.

So, my question is, what resources do you think the ministry will have to do to actually enforce these fines and ensure that bad actors are held accountable and our children are taken care of?
