Mr. Speaker, April is Sikh Heritage Month, and no matter where we go in Canada, we will find an immense amount of pride in Sikh heritage and its many contributions in every aspect of our society. It is a great pleasure for me to be able to stand in my place to recognize the month as a significant time for us to appreciate, love and better understand Sikhism and how it contributes to the very fabric of Canadian society. I would encourage members to visit a gurdwara, talk to members of our Punjabi heritage community and get a better understanding of how Sikhism affects our Canadian heritage. It is something all of us should embrace no matter what our faith is, so let us encourage our constituents to get a better understanding of Sikhism.

Mr. Speaker, the month of April is Sikh Heritage Month. In Canada, from coast to coast to coast, members of the Sikh faith and others are celebrating Vaisakhi. Vaisakhi is such an important time of the year. It celebrates the creation of the Khalsa. The Khalsa is so important to all members of the Sikh community and others. In 1999, we passed a resolution in the Manitoba legislature, which I was pleased to be the sponsor of, recognizing the importance of the Khalsa. At this time of year, the month of April, we appreciate Sikh Heritage Month and all the valuable contributions that this community does for us. It is a part of our Canadian heritage itself. To each and every one of the members here today, I say happy Vaisakhi and do appreciate the Khalsa.

Mr. Speaker, April is Sikh Heritage Month. My bhaji, back in 2019, brought in legislation that was ultimately passed unanimously by all sides of the House, recognizing the importance of Sikhism not only to Canada but around the world. It is with a very proud heart that I say to people that April is the month in which we should be recognizing the importance from Sikhism from coast to coast to coast here in Canada. April 14 is a very special day. It is the day in which we celebrate Vaisakhi. At this time, I would like to wish everyone a very happy Vaisakhi. I have been touched and blessed since 1988 when I was first elected to the Manitoba legislature, and I know the importance of Sikhism. I want to say to everyone, Sat Sri Akaal.
