Bill C-250

44th Parl. 1st Sess.
September 20, 2022
  • Bill C-250 is a proposed law that would change the Criminal Code to make it illegal to publicly promote antisemitism by condoning, denying, or downplaying the Holocaust. Anyone found guilty of this offense could be sentenced to up to two years in prison or face a less severe punishment. The law also includes provisions for the forfeiture of any property or assets used in the commission of the offense. The consent of the Attorney General is required to initiate legal proceedings. The bill provides a definition of the Holocaust as the planned and deliberate persecution and annihilation of European Jewry by the Nazis and their collaborators from 1933 to 1945.
