Mr. Speaker, the right thing to do is to make home ownership a possibility for aspiring Canadian homeowners. Right now, in the Quebec City region, property and house prices have gone up 21%. Even with a good job, home ownership is not a given. Young families are completely giving up on their dream of owning a home. Unfortunately, the Liberals are unsympathetic to their plight. Will this government be remembered as a government of shattered dreams?

Mr. Speaker, real estate costs have risen sharply. Under the Liberals, the average cost of a house doubled from $434,000 to $868,000. That is just insane. Young people cannot even dream of buying their first home. In the rental market, even shacks are out of reach. The government created this real estate chaos, so will it now give a little hope to our young people, who are once again victims of its mismanagement?

Mr. Speaker, I am not the one saying it. The Canadian Real Estate Association put out some disturbing figures today, showing that for 2021, house prices increased by 25%. How can a young middle-class family ever hope to get on the property ladder when the average price for a home in Canada is now $720,000, and $445,000 in Quebec? The Prime Minister keeps telling us it is a global problem, but it is affecting young people here and now. What is he going to say to those young people? What real action is he going to take?

Mr. Speaker, as the leader of the official opposition rightly said, inflation hurts. It is well documented. Young families who want to buy a house cannot afford it because of runaway inflation. The dream of owning a home has become out of reach for those aged 40 and under, who are now seeing prices rise every month. We know that the Prime Minister is out of touch with our young people's concerns. What does he have to say to the young families who are struggling and discouraged and who have to give up their dreams of home ownership?
