I call the meeting to order. Good afternoon, everyone. Welcome to meeting number 117 of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage. Pursuant to the order of reference of Wednesday, November 22, 2023, the committee is resuming its consideration of Bill C-316, an act to amend the Canadian Heritage Act (Court Challenges Program). Now, as of Monday, when this was announced in the House, we are trying to avoid audio feedback. Before we begin, I would like to remind all members and other meeting participants in the room, if we have any, of the following important preventive measures to prevent disruptive and potentially harmful audio feedback incidents that can cause injuries. All in-person participants are reminded to keep their earpieces away from the microphones at all times. As indicated in the communiqué from the Speaker to the members on Monday, April 29, the following measures have been taken to help prevent audio feedback incidents. All earpieces have been replaced by a model that greatly reduces the probability of audio feedback. The new earpieces that you have in front of you, of course, are black. The former grey earpieces are gone. Use only the black ones. By default, all unused earpieces will be unplugged at the start of the meeting. When you are not using your earpiece, please place it face down on the middle of the sticker for this purpose, which you will find on the table as indicated. Please consult the cards on the table for the guidelines to prevent audio feedback incidents. The room layout, as you have noticed, has been adjusted to increase the distance between microphones and reduce the chance of feedback from the earpieces. These measures are in place so that we conduct our business without interruption and to protect the health and safety of all participants, including our interpreters here.
