This enactment amends the Canada Shipping Act, 2001 in order for a foreign national who holds a diploma issued by a prescribed Canadian maritime institution and for whom a permanent residence application is being processed to be eligible for a certificate of competency.

His Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:
2001, c. 26
(a.1) a foreign national within the meaning of subsection 2(1) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act who is referred to in subsection 88(1); or
End of inserted block( Insertion start a Insertion end ) a Canadian citizen;
( Insertion start b Insertion end ) a permanent resident within the meaning of subsection 2(1) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act;
(c) a foreign national within the meaning of subsection 2(1) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act who holds a diploma issued by a prescribed Canadian maritime institution and for whom a permanent residence application under that Act is being processed.
