[Member provided the following translation:] Uqaqtittiji, I am happy to rise today to speak to my bill. The Territorial Lands Act needs to align with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Free, prior and informed consent must be used when developing on indigenous lands. Indigenous people’s rights must be upheld at all stages of government. This bill will ensure that governments meet this important international standard. I thank the experts I worked with and my NDP colleague, the member for Edmonton Griesbach, for seconding my bill and who continues to advocate for indigenous rights, as I do. [English]
