Does the hon. member have unanimous consent to table her petition? Some hon. members: No. The Assistant Deputy Speaker (Mrs. Carol Hughes): I am sorry, but there is not unanimous consent. I would ask members that if they are looking for unanimous consent on their motions, they should consult all parties of the House. It would make things a lot easier. I know this is something we have talked about on a number of occasions regarding other members as well. The hon. member for Saanich—Gulf Islands.

Mr. Speaker, it is disturbing that Conservatives needed to ask the police to find out that the minister's statement claiming that police recommended the government invoke the Emergencies Act was in fact false. No such recommendations were made by police. The deputy minister tried to explain the minister's claims, saying he was misunderstood. Why did the minister repeatedly fail to give Parliament accurate information? Was he just hoping he would not get caught?
