  • Re: Bill C-63
Madam Chair, I think that the suggestion about hate, the Bloc Québécois's private member's bill and our Bill C-63 highlight the fact that we need to pass this bill at second reading and send it to the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights so that we can study it, hear from experts and witnesses and propose amendments, if a few turn out to be appropriate.

Mr. Speaker, My Voice, My Choice does tremendous work. I would like to acknowledge the work that this organization is doing. The most important, poignant and workable thing about this bill is that, when the representatives of this organization advocated for victims of violent sexual crimes, they asked us to reinstate this registry. They also asked for more autonomy, more dignity and choice regarding their role in the system. This is what this bill will and must do. I think the challenge is clear. We must co-operate and work together in a non-partisan way to get this done before the end of October. I am very comfortable continuing to work with my Bloc Québécois colleagues. I hope I can count on their support.

Mr. Speaker, I appreciate the question from the Bloc Québécois member because it underscores the importance of small businesses here in Canada. We have always been there to help and support SMEs. We lowered taxes from 11% to 9%. The opposition voted against that measure. We were there to provide support during the pandemic with the loans the member across the way mentioned. What we just did with the budget is lower credit card transaction fees for SMEs. Again, the opposition voted against that.
